Year One Meadowside

Nurturing curiosity, courage and kindness

Activities for the Summer Holidays!

Wahooooooo, it’s the summer holidays!

Here are some activities that you could do whilst you’re at home. There is no pressure to do these activities, they are there if you wanted to do something.

The most important thing to do over summer is to READ! This could be anything –  your books at home, magazines, comics (Phonics Play have some amazing ones here – https://phonicsplaycomics.co.uk/ Depending on whether we continue with Rising Stars, you can sign up to Oxford Owl for free. They have lots of online books too (Biff, Chip & Kipper style).

The Summer Reading Challenge is also available this year – just virtually instead!

Here is the link – https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/summer-reading-challenge-silly-squad

Here are some possible activities you could do for English, Maths and Phonics:

Summer activities English Maths Phonics

They could also practise their handwriting and letter formation:

A4 Precursive Letter Formation Poster

Here are all the words that Year 1 need to be a able to read and write. You could practise these using my different spelling strategies:

You can also make a free account of Twinkl where they have tons of resources!

And don’t forget to HAVE FUN!! You have worked incredibly hard this year, I am so proud of you all. Enjoy your summer holiday and I’ll see you when you’re all grown up in Year 2!! Miss Place is VERY lucky to have you all.

Lots of love,

Miss Jenkins x

Learning for Monday 13th July

Good morning Year 1!

Now, it is the last week of Year 1!!! I am going to be continuing with the blog, but I’ll be putting up games and activities to help you recap lots of different learning as I know some of you are still learning from home. In school, we would be carrying on working in the mornings until Thursday!

Year 1B – don’t forget we have a zoom at 10am this morning!

If you haven’t already, please fill in the survey for Rising Stars. It literally takes two minutes and I’d be really grateful to hear if it has been useful or not! Here is the link – https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/DNK2Z7Q

Early Bird Phonics:

This morning I would like you to practise writing your capital letters. Write out the alphabet in both upper and lower case letters.

Maths:

In Maths today and tomorrow you are going to be investigators!

Follow the PowerPoint to figure out the clues!

Over today and tomorrow you are going to write the story from either the meerkats or the vultures perspective! Pretend you are the meerkat, or pretend you are the vulture. What happens in each part of the story?

Don’t forget your capital letters, finger spaces and punctuation! If you want an extra challenge… can you use adjectives to describe the characters and setting in your story?

Here are some page borders you might like to use – Lined – Portrait            Narrow Lined – Portrait

Today we are looking at the ‘g’ phoneme which can also make the ‘j’ sound, like in ‘giant’.

Read these words:

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5/sentences-5b    (g)

English: Suffixes

Here are some of the things I would like you to include:

  • Your name!
  • Describe yourself and things you like to do
  • One really interesting thing about you
  • Your favourite thing to do at school
